No-Code in Building the Metaverse

October 13, 2022

What is the metaverse? Meta is a Greek word for  after" or "beyond" and is a prefix meaning "more comprehensive" or "transcending." This is a fitting name for the new generation of internet usage. Metaverse is, quite a simplified, virtual space and the next evolution of the internet. It is a digital space where people can do a more immersive lifestyle even if they aren’t physically there. When Facebook announced that it targets to the breakthrough metaverse and even rebranded itself, it became a buzzword. Here is a quick VR demo by Facebook owner Mark Zuckerburg last November 2021 on the creative vision with metaverse

In the metaverse, users traverse a digital world that resembles the physical world where they can “touch” , “walk” and “do” different things with technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI), social media and digital currency like Bitcoin. Inside the metaverse, you can also acquire things such as rela estate, exclusive artwork like NFTs, and even clothes. Businesses started to invest a huge amount into this alternative universe and we can see it grow further with no-code.

No-code is a development method that gained traction over the last few years. It is visual programming that allows anyone with limited programming skills to create apps, websites and even software. We have tackled no-code already in AI development (Is No Code Artifial Intellgence Possible?) creating no-code NFT collections (Creating NFT with No-Code) and even creating your own no-code cryptocurrency (How to Use No-Code in Cryptocurrency). It is possible to see a no-code metaverse. What can you do with no-code in metaverse and how will it propel mainstream adoption?

Current state of Metaverse

Mark Zuckerberg predicts that it will take 5-10 years before the first main features of metaverse can be released. This is despite reports that 10,000 Facebook employees are working solely on Facebook’s metaverse project.

However, aspects of the metaverse can be seen with ultra-fast broadband technology, VR headsets such as Oculus, virtual reality (VR) gaming chairs and niche online worlds such as Roblox and Fortnite. Accenture has also adopted a metaverse-like office environment that incorporates avatars, virtual rooms, and digital whiteboards for meetings. Sales of  virtual real estate have reached record high of $500M with an estimated compound annual rate of 31% a year from 2022 to 2028.

As we can see, we already see bits and pieces of metaverse around us but are somehow still disjointed. The Covid 19 pandemic made people adopt technology faster and included it already in their regular habits post-pandemic. At this rate, metaverse can simply be a 3D shift of their regular online habits and make it more immersive.

With so much potential in the metaverse, more people want to invest on it with their ideas. Back then, you must have had a lot of financial and manpower resources to pull it all together. With no-code development, bursting through the metaverse can be relatively easier, more efficient, and less expensive than coding.

No-Code Metaverse

As mentioned. The technologies making up the metaverse can also be done with no-code. On top of that, there is a lot more you can do with no-code metaverse.

No-code metaverse apps

No-code metaverse app are designed for anyone to create, share, publish, and enjoy their own metaverse. It can be apps that can push for more immersive shopping, learning, employee onboarding, training, and so many things. For a more specific example, they employ digital twin technology. A digital twin is a virtual copy of your real-world facilities that can be used to run simulations, data dashboards, renovation planning, and more. This helps businesses use time and resources better spent with their no-code metaverse apps.
No-code platform builders

With the shift to 3D, businesses can now offer the option to customers if they want to experience their brand and website in 2D or 3D. They can explore your office, see the production line, and all other things that you usually have to be physically present. You can create and customize your own metaverse with a few clicks on Metaverses.io. You start by naming it and configuring a metaverse.json file with your 3D models and web embeds.

No-code AR

Augmented reality (AR) is another key component of the metaverse. It has been used in health, education, marketing, and business sectors, as well as in government and non-government sectors. With this benefit, more people now have the opportunity to create one with a simple no-code tool that allows users to create multi-scene AR experiences using a simple drag-and-drop interface. This creates immersive 3D WebAr experiences and can even create  AR/VR experiences directly on your smartphone. Companies like ScopeAr, Zapwork and Minsar are already in the market with these kinds of features.

No-code Metaverse Game Development

We featured no-code game development HERE and the benefits of gamification for the user and businesses. For the metaverse, game development is another factor since it encourages more realistic digital interaction with anyone in the world. The potential; is there and evident with Yahaha Studios raising $50 million in investments for the metaverse no-code game creation platform.

No-Code in Opening Metaverse

You can somehow feel metaverse already even though it's not yet officially launched. However, this is the evolution of internet usage and it coincides with new tech like Web3, crypto and so much more. The synergy of these technologies offers an exciting world that changes how we interact with people and the things around us.

Adoption is still low because of factors like expensive equipment and accessibility. No-code can help grow this by allowing anyone to contribute to this virtual space.

No-code allows everyone to take part in this brave new world by giving them access to their ideas to translate into the metaverse. Gen Z, the most likely heavy users of this new world, will be able to utilize their basic coding knowledge and use it with no-code to continually innovate it. For now, we are hoping more tools for a no-code metaverse.
